A Traveler’s Review of the Toledo Express Airport
Toledo Express Airport is a travel destination that is not quite on the list of “America’s lagest Airports”, but for those in the area of northwest Ohio, southeast Michigan, it may be your closest and most convenient way to travel. Allow me to give you a review of the offerings as well as my review and opinion of this airport.
Providing air travel to Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan residents and travelers, Toledo Express Airport is served by five airlines: Allegiant Air, American Eagle, Continental Connection, Delta Connection and Northwest Airlink. Toledo Express offers more than 20 daily flights to seven destinations around the country, including Atlanta, Chicago O’Hare, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit Metro Airport, Orlando, and Tampa Bay. Located at 11013 Airport Highway, in Swanton, Ohio the Airport sits on over 2,00 acres.
The nicest, recent addition to the Toledo Express Airport involves the online booking system. A travel-booking engine has been added to the Toledo Express Airport Web site to help offer local travelers a timely and quick way to find out about special fare deals. The flytoledoexpress.com page is connected to the toledoexpress.com site. It allows anyone to take a quick moment to check on the availability of a flight from the convenience of your own home. You can compare fares and schedules for flights from other airports also, and buy tickets for those alternatives if they are a better option.
The companies already at Toledo Express occasionally offer fare bargains, which were only found by calling the airport of travel agents, but now this website will feature them along with emailing them to anyone who registers for that program.
The most interesting thing about this site is that it offers bargains even at a higher price at the convenience of people of different class, quite similar to a grocery shop owner. Also, I prefer online booking more as everything is on the dot without delay and the services are quite good and far better than that of Seattle International.
Once you enter the property that the Airport is located on, you will find parking to be simple to use. Like most Airports, you have the option of same day or long term parking, and the costs are reasonable compared to larger facilities. Entering the terminal entrance canopy, you find the desks of the five airlines offered here. Each will allow you to check your baggage, and then the entrance to the waiting area for outgoing flights is a short walk from there. Passing through security, you are taken up the 2nd level of the airport, where there is ample seating available, along with a coffee and snack shop, where there are various snacks and sandwich items are available along with magazines and newspapers. There is also a SUBWAY and Marco’s Pizza restaurant on hand, their operating hours dependent on the time of the day.
From the upstairs, you find the seats are mildly comfortable, most look like they are a good 20 years old or so, and in need of a “contemporary” update. The restroom facilities were clean and acceptable overall. Waiting for your flight, there are a few small monitors with information on the current outgoing flights.
Upon arrival the terminal on your way home, you will find that the exit terminal from the plane is a little more narrow than most larger airports, which may present problems for larger guests or those traveling with wheelchairs or baby carriers. The luggage area is quite small, and only has two belt systems. This was our main complaint with the Toledo Express Airport, the waiting time for our suitcases was very long-over 40 mins., when we were the only flight there waiting. This seemed like a long time to wait for our luggage when we seemed to be the only ones being serviced.
Overall, the Toledo Express Airport provides a good service for small flights, especially for those traveling short distance less than 3-4 hours. The terminal is clean, but at times very quiet from a general lack of customers. But his may also be it’s greatest positive, because the wait time to check in and be ready to fly is far less than larger airports.
