Hair Mask At Home: Salon Quality From Ingredients In Your Kitchen
This is a great way to pamper yourself! We moms tend to throw our hair back in a pony tail and forget about it as we tend to our children. Here is a nice way to spoil yourself and pump up your tresses! You can usually find these ingredients already in your kitchen. You may need to go out and buy a couple of things for this recipe if you don’t already have them, but the cost of all these ingredients is still significantly lower than going to your salon or any laser hair removal price. Plus you will have everything on hand for the next time you want to perk up your hair!
Banana Hair Mask
(Amount is suitable for medium to long hair)
1 ripened banana
2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp plain yogurt
1/4 tsp honey (measure this as you don’t want to over do it!)
2 tsp heavy cream
Mix all ingredients well. I recommend using a blender or food processor to avoid having to comb out banana clumps later! Bananas are great for your hair because they are packed full of nutrients like potassium and vitamins. They also contain amino acids that are beneficial for both hair and skin.
You will want to apply the mask to damp unwashed hair, this way it bonds to the hair and nourishes it. Using a coloring brush (you can buy these at any beauty supply store) dip brush into mixture and apply to your hair, starting about 1 inch from your roots down to the ends. Separate your hair into layers on each side of your scalp, use plastic hair clips to keep hair divided as you brush on the mixture. (If you don’t want to go to all this trouble you can also apply the mask with your fingertips and massage through your hair, just be sure to apply the mask onto all your hair) After you apply the mask, comb through with a wide mouth comb. Then place a plastic disposable shower cap over your hair and let sit for 20-30 minutes. This would be a great time to take a bubble bath as the steam would enhance the conditioning process.
After the allotted time, rinse your hair thoroughly. Ensure all the treatment is out of your hair. By now your hair should feel much softe and thicker. Follow with a shampoo, I like to use Burt’s Bees Shampoo because it is all natural and leaves my hair feeling healthy and super clean.
Once your hair is shampooed, towel dry and comb as usual. By the time your hair dries it should be shiny and silky. You will notice a definate fullness. The Banana Hair Mask will leave your tresses smelling scrumptious too!
